Thierry Poinsot, scientist from Institut de Mécanique des Fluides (IMFT) awarded by an Advanced Grant

Among the winners, the SCIROCCO project led by Thierry Poinsot, research director at the Institut de Mécanique des Fluides de Toulouse (Toulouse INP / CNRS / UPS), received an ERC Advanced Grant.

This year, the European Research Council (ERC) awarded an Advanced Grant to 222 researchers to fund 5-year exploratory research projetcs.

Theses grants highlight recognised scientists in their fields at national and international level who carry innovative projects. Institut de Mécanique des Fluides de Toulouse (IMFT) has just been awarded its fifth ERC, which puts France in third position by hosting 31 projects.

The SCIROCCO project focuses on the use of hydrogen as a storage medium for renewable energies and thus increases their contribution to the energy mix.

This work fits into the many lines of research and current developments on hydrogen, in order to limit global warming to 2°, to provide, by 2050, 65% of our energy from renewable energies such as wind or solar power.

Dr. Thierry Poinsot proposes to use the remarkable combustion properties of hydrogen (high flame speed, fast ignition, zero carbon dioxide emissions) to solve these issues.
